DCU"s Batman movie has finally gotten an update from James Gunn, and it suggests the future of the DCU is in good hands. When the MCU began in 2008, no one could have anticipated how big that franchise would become. However, there was a race to build on the mega franchise concept, with many studios rushing to create entire universes. Among them, the DCEU was one of the franchises that suffered in quality because of this race to the bottom.
However, with a complete overhaul and James Gunn being put in the hot seat as the new head of DC Studios, exciting developments and new projects were announced in bulk. Gunn announced several TV shows, movies like Superman, and a Batman film which would be titled The Brave and the Bold. Since that initial DCU slate announcement in 2022, there has been a lot of radio silence in terms of the Batman movie, despite other DCU projects moving forward at pace.
James Gunn Offered The First Major DCU Batman Movie Update In Over A Year The Brave And The Bold Is Still Im Early Development Close In a recent interview with Collider, James Gunn was asked directly for an update on the Batman movie, and in plain and simple terms, he made it clear that work on the Batman movie has not progressed due to the script not being where he wants it to be. As a writer and director first, Gunn has put a lot of focus on the need to have a fully fleshed out script before launching into a project, but that does mean that work on The Brave and the Bold appears to be lagging behind.
