I Can’t Believe We Still Haven’t Seen 1 Huge Thanos Scene In The MCU After 7 Years Of Waiting & Marvel"s Newest Update Means We Might Now Never Get To
I don"t think we"ll ever see one huge missing Thanos sequence in the MCU after hearing the newest update regarding Marvel Studios"
Nova series. Josh Brolin"s Thanos was featured as the primary antagonist of the Infinity Saga, set-up in The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Age of Ultron before finally starting his conquest in 2018"s Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos is still the most formidable supervillain we"ve seen in the MCU, even though Marvel still hasn"t shown us one of his most destructive and explosive battle sequences.
Even after his demise in Avengers: Endgame, the Mad Titan continues to have a huge impact on the MCU. His attack on the universe played a role in Eternals, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hawkeye and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but
I expected one new MCU TV show to explore the aftermath of Thanos" actions more than any other. However, Marvel"s new update has me worried we"ll now never see this sequence play out on-screen, though I still have hope that Josh Brolin"s Thanos will return to the MCU.
We Still Haven’t Seen 1 Major Deleted Infinity War Sequence Avengers: Infinity War Cut A Major 45-Minute-Long Scene

Thanos started his quest to collect the six Infinity Stones and use them to wipe out half the universe"s population in Avengers: Infinity War, but when we saw him attacking Thor and the Asgardian refugee ship, Thanos already had the Power Stone. The purple Infinity Stone was last seen in 2014"s Guardians of the Galaxy, where the titular cosmic team used it to save Xandar from Ronan the Accuser.
The Power Stone was hidden in a secret vault by the Nova Corps, led by Glenn Close"s Nova Prime, but Infinity War hinted at a dark ending for Xandar.
When Thor met the Guardians of the Galaxy in Infinity War, he revealed that
the Mad Titan had "decimated Xandar" to acquire the Power Stone. Back in April 2023, Thanos" Marvel Comics creator, Jim Starlin, revealed on Near Mint Condition that directors the Russo brothers had told him a 45-minute sequence of Thanos attacking Xandar and obtaining the Power Stone had been shot, but was cut from Infinity War"s theatrical cut. We saw Thanos acquire every other Infinity Stone, so I would have loved to have seen this sequence, too.
Nova Was The Perfect Place To Watch Thanos Decimate Xandar Nova May Have Returned To Xandar Close
A Disney+ series focused on the character of Richard Rider"s Nova was confirmed to be in development back in March 2022, with Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel"s Sabir Pirzada writing the script. Criminal Minds" Ed Bernero replaced Pirzada in December 2024, and theories began to emerge about who would be cast in the titular role. On February 20, however, Deadline reported that Nova, along with previously-unannounced Terror Inc. and Strange Academy shows, has been paused by Marvel Studios, with other projects being prioritized.

Related MCU's Nova TV Show: Cancellation, Story, & Everything We Know The MCU"s Nova project was an exciting release, but it"s received an unfortunate development.
Posts 1 Marvel"s Nova series would have been the perfect place for Thanos" 45-minute-long decimation of Xandar to finally be explored in the MCU. In Marvel Comics, Richard Rider"s Nova is the last Centurion of the Nova Corps, and Thanos" attack on Xandar in the MCU may have left just one survivor, so it would have been great to see Nova open with this sequence.
Nova"s pause in development, however, makes me think that it"ll still be a very long time before we see this scene - if Marvel ever shows it to us at all.
Where Thanos Can Return To The MCU If Not In The Nova Series Josh Brolin Has Teased Thanos' MCU Return
![]()
Back in February 2024, Josh Brolin revealed to ComicBook that he had heard "through the grapevine" that Thanos would be returning to the MCU. It would have made sense for the Mad Titan to come back so that Marvel could finally reveal how he decimated Xandar, took on the Nova Corps and acquired the Power Stone in a Nova series. Since this project has been put on the back-burner,
I reckon there are several other places where Thanos could easily make his triumphant return to the MCU.
You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they"re gonna bring him back. And there"s the What If...? series and that"s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don"t know in the Marvel world whether they"re going to bring him back, but I didn"t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain ... You learn something new every day.
I reckon it"s most likely that Josh Brolin could reprise his role of Thanos in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
These crossovers are expected to feature many returning characters from the MCU"s history, many of whom are theorized to return to battle Robert Downey Jr."s Doctor Doom, and this could include Thanos, given the fact that the Mad Titan and Doctor Doom battle in Marvel Comics" Secret Wars. I"d still love to see a
Nova series in the MCU, but Thanos has plenty of other chances to return, which is still very exciting.
