"It"s Up To James Gunn:" David Corenswet Addresses Whether He"ll Return To The DCU After Superman
Superman"s David Corenswet is about to make his big-screen debut as the Man of Steel this summer, but the actor said he could not elaborate on any future plans for the character. Along with Corenswet, the film will star Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion, among others. Superman, which is directed by DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn, will be most audience members" first look into the new DC Universe, meaning the reaction to the film will have a huge impact moving forward.
The importance of Superman"s success is likely not lost on Corenswet. In an interview with Esquire España (translated by Comic Book Resources), he dodged a question regarding his DCU future. Deflecting, Corenswet stated: "I don"t think it"s up to me to answer that." The actor then clarified that "it"s up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination," and he is "just there where they need [him] to be to say what was written, although that doesn"t always happen."
What David Corenswet's Comments About His Superman Future Mean Just Because Corenswet Couldn't Answer, Doesn't Mean Something Is Wrong Close Though Corenswet declined to comment on his future as Superman, that doesn"t mean he doesn"t have any further appearances in the role lined up. Even if the actor is under contract for more DC films or series, he is likely not at liberty to openly discuss projects that are not public knowledge yet. Additionally,
there may be hints about his next DCU project in Superman that he does not want to spoil prior to the film"s release.
