Venom: The Last Dance Stars Chiwetel Ejiofor & Juno Temple Share Their Experience Entering The Sony Marvel Universe

As Eddie Brock"s Marvel story gets ready to close out, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple open up about taking part in Venom: The Last Dance. While he may have gotten Sony"s Spider-Man Universe launched all the way back in 2018, the journey of Venom is coming to an end in 2024. Serving as his trilogy finale, Hardy is back one last time as the titular anti-hero in Venom: The Last Dance.
With new characters coming into the fold, the Venom: The Last Dance cast has two new main players coming into the fold. Ejiofor, who is no stranger to the Marvel audience as he portrays Mordo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is now taking on the role of General Rex Strickland, who is on a quest to capture the Venom symbiote. Temple, who made her comic book movie debut in 2012"s The Dark Knight Rises, has a bigger role in Venom: The Last Dance, portraying Dr. Teddy Payne, who is studying the concept of the symbiotes.

ScreenRant recently chatted with Ejiofor and Temple ahead of the Venom: The Last Dance release, and they offered more clues about how their characters fit into the story. Temple and Ejiofor discuss the larger dynamic between General Strickland and Dr. Payne, as they have a complex relationship throughout the film. Ejiofor also offers his experience with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, explaining the difference in his Marvel characters and how each experience measured up.
Chiwetel Ejiofor & Juno Temple On Entering Sony's Spider-Man Universe With Venom: The Last Dance Close ScreenRant: Do you guys ever walk out of a movie and go, "Damn, that was a lot of fun." That is Venom: The Last Dance, this is so much fun. Both of your characters are newcomers to the Venom franchise. Juno, what can you tease about Dr. Teddy Payne, and how does Teddy"s approach to our working beliefs classroom align with other scientists at Strickland facility?
Juno Temple: I love her. I think she is a quirky scientist who, I think, is very good at what she does, but also is very emotionally attached to it because of a loss she experienced when she was a young girl, and she loves someone very important to her, who she loves a lot, and their dream was to explore the great beyond and find answers. I imagine [they] probably [wanted to] meet people or things from other places. She kind of continued that on, and I think every time she"s awake and looking up, she thinks about the person she lost.
That means her judgment isn"t always the best for the people right in front of her. It is made from a place of her heart and a memory of somebody she misses all the time. That creates a big conflict at moments with the brilliant Chiwetel here, who plays General Strickland, who is technically my boss, and definitely has more pressure on him to protect humanity than I would probably even give him the credit for. But we struggle with how we should treat the symbiotes, or Extraterrestrial Alien life form that we get to actually interact with in our facility.
Chiwetel Ejiofor On Portraying A New Venom Villain For Venom: The Last Dance "It comes out of a desire to do the right thing, maybe with a bit too much furor." Chiwetel, now that your role has been revealed to be General Rex Strickland, a one-time Venom villain. How much can you tell us about Rex and why is he after Eddie and Venom?
Chiwetel Ejiofor: General Strickland runs this facility, basically, he is the boss, not just technically [laughs] but he has this challenge with the science department and that he needs them. They sort of need each other. They need him, and they need the military for the protection and the safeguards they offer, but they need the science for the actual studying of the of the creatures. So he"s always in this strange tension with them, and as it transpires, Eddie and Venom hold the key to a lot of these problems that they"re experiencing.
Juno Temple: [That they] wouldn"t find out without the science department!
Chiwetel Ejiofor: Well, that is true. That is true. It enacts a situation, really, where Strickland has to be protective. This is the complication with Strickland, I think, is that it comes out of a desire to do the right thing, maybe with a bit too much furor. But nonetheless, I think he"s on the right side of the game.
Juno Temple On Similarities Between Herself And Venom: The Last Dance's Dr. Payne "She's scruffy and drives an old car, and she's wearing her old t-shirt." Custom Image by Zach Moser Juno, did you find any personal parallels between yourself and Dr. Payne, especially in terms of pursuing answers and facing challenges?
Juno Temple: For sure, I feel like that"s a huge, huge relatability between the two of us. I"m super curious about the great beyond too. My youngest brother is an astrophysicist, actually, so when I got this job, I was like, "Okay, babe, sit down, I"ve got a lot of questions," and every time I see him, I learn something new about outer space and I love that. Being an actor, I feel like there"s an infinite amount of learning always and knowledge to be gained. It feels the same with outer space. I also think I relate to the fact that she"s scruffy and drives an old car, and she"s wearing her old t-shirt. I can relate to that, to being a fan of the vintage things, whilst also being obsessed with what"s happening with the future. I like that combination. That"s something I relate to.
Chiwetel Ejiofor On Marvel Secrecy For Venom: The Last Dance After Being Part Of The MCU Chiwetel, you"ve worked with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, both on Marvel properties. How did they compare in terms of a secrecy standpoint? Because everybody knows that Marvel snipers are everywhere.
Chiwetel Ejiofor: [Laughs] Pretty good; I think they"re snipers everywhere as we speak. I don"t think any spoilers have been [leaked] - nothing to do with me, anyway. But it"s great - there"s just a lot for fans of the films to enjoy, and the hope is that those juicy details are kept secret.
