Harrison Ford Addresses Upcoming Red Hulk MCU Role: "I"m Just Here On A Weekend Pass"

Captain America: Brave New World is set to introduce at least one new Hulk to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and actor Harrison Ford has recently addressed his appearance in the film. Following a long and storied career playing iconic characters like Han Solo and Indiana Jones, the 82-year-old actor will join the MCU in a pivotal role. Taking over the character of Thaddeus Ross from the late William Hurt, Ford"s turn as "Thunderbolt" Ross has already been revealed to be unique and intense in the film"s teaser trailer.
During an interview with GQ to discuss the upcoming season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Shrinking, in which Ford co-stars alongside Jason Segel, the actor was asked about his role in the MCU. Showing some detachment, Ford said, "This is the Marvel universe, and I’m just there on a weekend pass. I’m a sailor new to this town. Show me the way to go home." The comment reflects on a disconnect between Ford and the role, although the actor went on with more thoughtful reflections.

Following a long career during which he starred in all types of films, Ford sees the MCU as a new direction in big-screen storytelling. While some have spoken more disparagingly about the state of the industry, Ford said, "[W]e’re silly if we sit around regretting the change and don’t participate. I’m participating in a new part of the business that, for me at least, I think is really producing some good experiences for an audience." He mentioned enjoying being a part of this evolution.
What Harrison Ford's MCU Comments Mean The Actor Seems To See Many Pros To Appearing In The MCU Close Ford is a professional who has been in the industry for many years, and he certainly knows how best to discuss his projects that are still in the works. While audiences may be concerned about how Ross can become the Red Hulk in the film, Ford"s own involvement is more personal. The actor has seen the changes in the industry evolve and clearly knows the kinds of projects he wishes to be involved with. This may bode well for the quality of the upcoming Captain America sequel.
Speaking about Shrinking, Ford noted that what got him to sign on for that role was "the success of the writing." While it is not clear how much of Brave New World Ford was made privy to prior to signing on for the film, this does suggest that the actor carefully considers his projects before signing on. This is hopefully a testament to the quality of the film. At the very least, Ford"s comments provide a surprisingly candid and thoughtful response to the actor"s place in the culture as well as the MCU"s status.
Our Take On Harrison Ford's MCU Comments The Comments Do Not Necessarily Mean Much Close An actor giving thoughtful and positive comments about their upcoming work is nothing new. Marketing and promotion for movies have required those involved to give positive answers about the project, regardless of how they may personally think of the film. Ford"s comments seem positive and authentic, although it is unlikely that the actor would say anything disparaging about the project at this time. Still, it remains to be seen how successful Captain America: Brave New World is when it releases next year.
