One Star Wars Scene Suggests That Thrawn Already Knows About Grogu
Summary
- Thrawn's ability to study and exploit his adversaries' weaknesses suggests he may use this tactic against Grogu in the future.
- Thrawn has access to the Inquisitorial database, meaning he could potentially learn about Grogu's past and use it against him.
- The connection between Moff Gideon and Thrawn implies that if Gideon knows about Grogu, Thrawn likely does too, and they may have been in communication about using him for their own purposes.
There's one scene from Star Wars' latest Disney+ TV show,
Ahsoka, that suggests Grand Admiral Thrawn already knows about Grogu. Lars Mikkelsen makes his live-action debut as Thrawn in Ahsoka and faithfully brings to life the very same intelligent terror of the Grand Admiral as seen in Star Wars Rebels. As a Chiss from the Unknown Regions, Thrawn's tactics are very different from his Imperial peers in a way that's helped him to succeed time and time again. Most notably is the way he studies his adversaries to gain a better understanding of them, making their weaknesses more apparent.
Thrawn has used this technique plenty of times in Rebels, and he also employs it in Ahsoka. In finding out that Ahsoka's former master was Anakin Skywalker himself, Thrawn's able to draw upon the time he spent working alongside Anakin in addition to when he served Darth Vader. As one of the very few who knew Anakin was Vader, Thrawn uses this against Ahsoka just moments before he defeats her by escaping Peridea. This is a technique he will no doubt replicate in the future, and there's one key part of this process that suggests Thrawn might aim to do the very same thing to none other than Grogu.

When Thrawn first starts his research on Ahsoka, he has Morgan Elsbeth help him sort through her information in the Inquisitorial database. This means that Thrawn has full access to it, and as a survivor of Order 66 himself, there's no doubt Grogu has plenty of information stored in that database as well. Much about where Grogu was and what he was doing between his escape from the Jedi Temple and Din Djarin finding him on Arvala-7 is still unknown, but given that the Inquisitors operated during that precise era, they most likely have those missing pieces. Thrawn could end up learning who Grogu's former masters were, what other planets he was spotted on during the Dark Times, and if it's updated enough, he could even discover that Grogu is now the adopted son of Din. There's no doubt that if Thrawn has this information accessible to him in the Inquisitorial database, then he could aim to use it against Grogu somehow.
