Every Superman Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

Summary
  • Superman II is widely regarded as one of the best superhero movies ever, with unforgettable villains and an exploration of the hero's human side.
  • The original 1978 Superman film set the gold standard for superhero movies, introducing Christopher Reeve as the iconic Man of Steel.
  • Zack Snyder's Justice League, while an improvement on the original release, struggled to overcome core issues and the need to do too much in one film.
Here is every live-action Superman movie ranked from worst to best - from the DCEU and everything that came before it. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the Man of Steel came soaring (or leaping) into comics in 1938, debuting in Action Comics #1. Superman films have certainly had their soaring highs and crushing lows, but filmmakers will likely never give up on finding new ways of adapting the Last Son of Krypton, and moviegoers would miss him if they did. With the DCEU timeline coming to an end - and a new Superman set to bring in a new era with the DC Universe - focus on the Man of Steel's past exists in a way it never quite has before.
Superman made his film debut in the Kirk Alyn serials, beginning in 1948. The Man of Steel has since gone on to appear in many films, both animated and live-action, as well as several beloved television shows. Neither the MCU’s box office domination nor a couple of difficult DC movie outings can dethrone Superman as the most iconic superhero ever created. Even with this in mind, the various live-action versions of Superman have represented both the best and the worst the genre has to offer - though the same can be said of Batman’s movies as well.
