The Flash Movie Director Defends Divisive CGI As Intentional, Explains Filmmaking Reason Behind VFX
Warning: This article may contain SPOILERS for The Flash. The Flash director Andy Muschietti defends the film's much-criticized CGI. While the movie initially received overwhelming praise from those who attended its CinemaCon premiere, the reception has since been mixed, with critics unanimously pointing out how The Flash's visual effects look unfinished. Discussions on the CGI have also taken place since the first trailer was released online, with many viewers mocking how its poor quality and noting its expensive budget that didn't seem to appear on the screen.
Now, in an interview with io9, Muschietti defends the look of The Flash. While discussing a scene at the beginning, where Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) saves babies from a nursery on the brink of falling down, Muschietti explains that the odd visuals were actually intentional. The idea, of course, is...we are in the perspective of the Flash. Everything is distorted in terms of lights and textures. We enter this ‘waterworld’ which is basically being in Barry’s POV. It was part of the design so if it looks a little weird to you that was intended.
