Marvel Studios’ First X-Men Project"s Lead Characters Revealed By Writer
X-Men '97, the first project for the comic book mutants under Marvel Studios, had its two lead characters revealed by the series' head writer. X-Men '97 is an animated show slated to release on Disney+ in Fall 2023, with a second season already on the way. The show is a continuation of the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1997. X-Men '97 is said to pick up from where the original animated show left off, with Magneto now leading the X-Men.
On Twitter, X-Men '97 head writer Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) revealed that Marvel Studios' animated series focusing on the mutants will have Storm and Cyclops as its main characters.
Storm and Cyclops have both served as leaders of the X-Men in the comics, with the characters' role as X-Men '97's leads coming naturally. Storm is one of the most powerful members of the X-Men, being classified as an Omega Level Mutant. On the other hand, Cyclops is a character who deserves more love after not having his full potential realized in Fox's X-Men movies.
Can X-Men ‘97 Play Into The Mutants’ Arrival In The MCU?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready to introduce the X-Men, with subtle hints at the team already being part of MCU projects. A newspaper hinting at Wolverine was present in Disney+'s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Namor was revealed to be a mutant in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Marvel Studios changed Kamala Khan's origin by making her a mutant instead of an Inhuman in Ms. Marvel — with X-Men: The Animated Series' iconic theme song playing in the background of the reveal.
