Snyder"s Kryptonian Wonder Woman Plan Would"ve Hurt DC In 6 Ways

Wonder Woman could have been Kryptonian in Zack Snyder’s DCEU. During a fan screening of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, director Zack Snyder revealed scrapped ideas about his DCEU films. According to Snyder, Wonder Woman was almost of Kryptonian origin in the DCEU. While Zack Snyder never directed a Wonder Woman film, Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince was introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League explored more about the DCEU gods in the “Age of Heroes” chapter. Considering that nothing in Zack Snyder’s Justice League contradicted Wonder Woman (2017), Snyder’s plans for Zeus’ origins in the DCEU must have been scrapped quite early. Here’s how Wonder Woman being Kryptonian would have hurt the DC Universe.
6 Wonder Woman Being Kryptonian Hurts The Amazons Zack Snyder’s original plan for Zeus in the DCEU involved the thunder god being Kryptonian. Considering that Amazons were created by Zeus as a way to protect the world from Ares, Zeus’ Kryptonian origins would have made each and every Amazon Kryptonian too. Wonder Woman (2017) followed the more classic DC take on the Amazons, combining elements from the post-Crisis lore with a few tidbits from the New 52 reboot. Having Zeus create the Amazons from magic to protect the ordinary world of men is quite an interesting concept, especially because mankind would end up betraying the Amazons.
In a way, the Amazons represented something that humanity could strive for, a greater good that existed beyond human failures. If all of the Amazons, including Wonder Woman, are of Kryptonian heritage, they are just as “human” as mankind. Snyder’s Man of Steel highlighted how Kryptonians failed their planet, leading to General Zod’s search for a new home. In other words, the Kryptonians were never gods. They were as flawed as the humans from Earth. From that perspective, Wonder Woman being Kryptonian would have hurt the Amazons.
5 Wonder Woman Being Kryptonian Makes The DCEU Too Reliant On Superman Henry Cavill’s Superman was at the center of the DCEU, even more so in the Zack Snyder-directed films. The very first sound in the DCEU was Kal-El’s cry, after all. From Kal-El’s birth in the first minutes of Man of Steel to Superman’s resurrection in Justice League, the DCEU focused its story on the Man of Steel. Even after both Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill exited the franchise, Superman remains at the center of the DCEU. For example, The Flash is revisiting Man of Steel. Wonder Woman being Kryptonian would only have made the DCEU even more reliant on Superman.
