DC Universe"s Swamp Thing Must Keep 1 Thing From The Canceled TV Show

The DC Universe's upcoming Swamp Thing movie may avoid many of the flaws that killed the 2019 show, but there's one key element from the series that could help it succeed. Swamp Thing is a dark and tragic figure from DC Comics that, while not as famous as most members of the Justice League, still has a long comic book history and a well-defined lore. The Protector of the Green is kindhearted, but mysterious and deadly when nature is at stake.
Swamp Thing's horror roots have remained a significant part of the character's identity in DC Comics. For instance, Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing series put into question the blurry line between man and monster with the use of body horror, demonic possessions, and Hell itself. Various DC storylines featured Swamp Thing facing the torments of eternal life, loss of identity, decay, and natural disasters, as well as more straightforward sources of horror such as demons, zombies, and other monsters. Clearly, Swamp Thing can work well as a superhero horror movie.
