10 Dead Marvel Characters Who Can Still Return In The MCU Phases 5 & 6

Multiple characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have a chance to return from the dead in Phase 5 and Phase 6. Marvel has proven its commitment to making death final for many of its principal characters, but has been known to resurrect a hero or a villain on occasion. Based on their track record, there’s a good chance that at least one or two of its deceased characters will get a new lease on life in the Multiverse Saga.
Over the years, Marvel has killed off dozens of its heroes and villains. Several of them, such as Iron Monger and Malekith the Accursed, were designed to be one-and-done antagonists, whereas others appeared in several projects before meeting a tragic end. Many, like Black Widow and Iron Man, enjoyed long MCU arcs before finally dying. In the cases of these characters, resurrection is unlikely. However, there are quite a few who are suitable candidates for a return. Here’s ten dead MCU characters who could make a comeback in either Phase 5 or Phase 6.
The Nova Corps Introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps were wiped out by Thanos offscreen prior to the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. Apparently, they were an obstacle to his goal of obtaining the Power Stone. Since then, the once-powerful organization of cosmic defenders has been a thing of the past, but plans to finally bring in Richard Rider’s Nova could change that. In order for Rider to get his comic book origin story, at least one member of the Nova Corps has to survive. If Marvel reveals that some Nova Corps characters are still alive, Rider can obtain his comic powers and the title of Nova Centurion.
Ulysses Klaue Better known as Klaw in Marvel Comics, Ulysses Klaue is the archenemy of the Black Panther and a character who never got to become the full-fledged supervillain that he is in the source material. While it appeared that Marvel closed the door on his story when he lost his life at the hands of Killmonger in Black Panther, his comic arc proves he can still come back. After all, Klaw has survived without his physical body in the past. Due to the sonic device in his arm, Klaw was able to live as a being made out of sound. The MCU character could return in a similar capacity since he too is equipped with a Vibranium sonic weapon.
Arnim Zola Played by Toby Jones, Captain America: The First Avenger’s Arnim Zola returned in the sequel by uploading his consciousness into a computer. It was destroyed in The Winter Soldier, but Marvel’s What If…? confirmed how Zola can come back. In the show, it was discovered that Zola made backups of himself. Thanks to that reveal, Marvel has established the possibility that these backups can exist in the Earth-616 reality. If they do, Arnim Zola can return in Captain America: The New World Order, perhaps as an ally to the Leader.
Kang the Conqueror At the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Kang the Conqueror seemingly died fighting Scott and Hope. His “death” set up the post-credits scene, which saw the Council of Kangs ready to take advantage of their adversary’s downfall. Considering how the multiverse allows unlimited versions of Kang to be introduced, Marvel may continue relying on variants of the character as it builds toward Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Alternatively, it may bring back Quantumania’s Kang, especially since it was never outright confirmed that he died. His final scene gave the impression that he was vaporized by his ship’s power core, but that may have been a fakeout. He could have been transported somewhere in secret.
Scarlet Witch Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff was supposedly crushed under the debris of Chthon’s temple on Mount Wundagore in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But if the comic character’s tendency to overcome death is any indication, Marvel can bring Scarlet Witch back at its convenience. It’ll have an opportunity to revive her (or at least lay the groundwork for her return) in Agatha: Coven of Chaos since her story is so closely linked to Agatha’s. Scarlet Witch could also show up in The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. She may not be someone the team would want to trust, but there’s no denying the power level boost she’d bring to the group.
Ultron Ultron has been the subject of numerous MCU theories for years. Due to the robotic nature of the character, the classic Avengers villain has managed to menace Earth’s Mightiest Heroes time and time again. Typically, he’ll be destroyed, only to come back stronger at a later point. Based on that history, there was good reason to suspect that Marvel would keep Ultron in its back pocket after Age of Ultron. But outside of Marvel’s What If…?, it’s yet to seize on the potential that comes with this aspect of the character. Ultron’s absence can finally end in Phase 6 via Vision Quest. As the creator of the original Vision, he’d be a fitting choice for the show’s villain.
