Secret Wars’ Best Endgame Trick Could Be The End Of MCU’s Avengers
Avengers: Endgame could inspire
Avengers: Secret Wars' best fan service, which could spell the end of Marvel Cinematic Universe's Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Marvel Studios is in the middle of delving deeper into the Multiverse Saga, continuously laying the groundwork for its culmination via the sixth Avengers film. Not much is known about the movie just yet, but considering its title, it's safe to assume that it will mine inspiration from its Marvel Comics counterparts, be it the original Secret Wars story from 1984 or its more recent version from 2015. In addition to that, the burgeoning MCU multiverse is a big clue on what to expect from the much-anticipated blockbuster.
Originally set to release in 2025, Marvel Studios has delayed the film a couple of times now. Currently, Avengers: Secret Wars is set for a May 2027 release after the franchise's latest set of movie reshuffling. While this means that there will be a longer wait for the project, it's for the better overall, considering criticisms of MCU's fast-paced rollout scheme in Phase 4 that is not only conducive for the VFX and filmmaking community but also to its fans. Although Avengers: Secret Wars' premiere is still a long way ahead, there are already ongoing rumors about what to expect from it. That includes a set piece that is inspired by Avengers: Endgame's portal sequence.
Secret Wars Could Bring Back Characters In A Bigger Way Than Endgame
Rumor has it that the MCU is bringing beloved old versions of Marvel heroes like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in a portal-like scene that could rival Avengers: Endgame's version — at least in terms of scale. The idea is enticing, not to mention possible. Marvel Studios has brought back previous iterations of characters in the Multiverse Saga with both Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning to join Tom Holland's web-slinger in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart reprised his role as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Jackman, on the other hand, is set to put back his Adamantium claws in Deadpool 3.
However, as exciting as this idea is, there's one massive drawback. It risks upstaging the MCU’s current Avengers roster which is already unorganized. Unlike the original Earth's Mightiest Heroes, composed of Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, and Captain America, which assembled fairly early on in the Infinity Saga, the next iteration of Marvel Studios' premier team has yet to come together. In fact, it's still unclear who's actually in it, considering that there hasn't been any kind of communication among the currently active heroes in the franchise. Between this and the nostalgia for former Marvel heroes, Avengers: Secret Wars could end the Avengers as they are known.
