10 MCU Phase 5 & 6 Set-Ups In Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Despite wrapping up the beloved MCU trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set up several exciting stories for Phases 5 and 6. Released on May 5, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the final adventure for the MCU's premiere cosmic team, with James Gunn returning to write and direct the Guardians' swansong story as part of the MCU's Phase 5. Although Vol. 3 was very focused on concluding the storyline that started in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, the film also laid the foundations for some interesting new stories for the MCU's future, though the shape of the team itself has changed for good.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 explored Rocket's backstory and creation by the High Evolutionary, as the team sets out to save his life following an attack by Adam Warlock. While Gunn's previous excursions in the MCU had showcased the Guardians' determination at saving the galaxy, Vol. 3 was a much more personal story as they sought to save one of their own. As the team's final adventure together, several loose ends from the previous Guardians of the Galaxy films were tied up, allowing each member to move on. However, the film also took the opportunity to set up stories that could unfold in the MCU's Phases 5 and 6.
