DC"s Supergirl Movie Gets First Major Update In 9 Months

Summary
  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie gets major update by finding its writer, indicating progress in its development.
  • The Supergirl movie doesn't have a release date yet and is still in the early stages. It will be based on a DC comics series by Tom King.
  • The movie may recast Supergirl instead of bringing back Sasha Calle, and it is unclear who will be cast.
The Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie gets its first major update since the project was announced by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn as part of the upcoming DC Universe slate. In January, DC Studios CEOs Gunn and Peter Safran laid out their initial plans for the relaunch of DC's film franchise. Included in the slate were a handful of movies and shows, among them a new Superman title — Gunn's Superman: Legacy movie — and a solo Supergirl film. However, while progress has been made on Superman: Legacy, there hasn't been any word on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie until now.
As reported by THR, DC Studios has set Ana Nogueira to write the script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Nogueira was previously hired in 2022 to write a script for a Supergirl movie that would've spun off from The Flash, in which Sasha Calle played Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El. However, the project was scrapped due to Gunn and Safran's revamped DC Universe, though the executives were reportedly so impressed with Nogueira's work they brought her back for Woman of Tomorrow. Gunn confirmed Nogueira's involvement in the movie on Instagram:
Gunn welcomed the screenwriter to the DC Universe project and said Nogueira's script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is "above and beyond anything I hoped it would be." He went on to hype the movie itself, saying, "We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale." No director is attached to the Supergirl movie as of this time.
