How Picard Season 3’s Changeling Villain Origin Ties To DS9’s Odo

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 7 - "Dominion"The tragic origin of Star Trek: Picard season 3 villain Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer) has ties to the history of Constable Odo (Rene Auberjonois) on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Picard season 3, episode 7, examined the scars left behind by DS9's Dominion War, a galactic conflict where there was shame on both sides, including the United Federation of Planets. Even now, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) weighed the morality of how far they were willing to cross the line in order to stop the Changelings' threat to the Federation.
Jean-Luc and his son, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) engaged in a bold plan to capture Captain Vadic in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7. Luring Vadic and her Changeling cohorts to the USS Titan-A, Picard and his crew managed to trap the shapeshifters behind force fields. In the short time Picard and Beverly had Vadic cornered, before Lore (Brent Spiner) sabotaged their plan and allowed the Changelings to escape and take over the Titan's bridge, Vadic unexpectedly confessed her origin story. It's a harrowing tale of torture and abuse that also brings to mind what Odo endured decades before he became the Security Chief of Deep Space Nine.
