DC"s Latest Casting News Proves The DC Universe Is Only A Soft Reboot

The main cast of Creature Commandos has been revealed, implying that James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe will be a far softer reboot than many believe. The old DCEU will end with the upcoming The Flash film, leading into the new DCU, which will include new versions of characters like Batman and Superman. While many, understandably, interpret the forthcoming new DC Universe as a full reboot, comments from Gunn and the cast of Creature Commandos imply that the new DC Universe will keep much of the original DCEU franchise.
The recently-revealed cast of Creature Commandos will include Weasel, John Economos, and Amanda Waller, each retaining their actors from the DCEU. The film will also introduce Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., further implying that Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is still canon to the DC Universe. The Flash’s timeline changes were, allegedly, only going to alter the old DCEU’s Batman and Superman, and the news of Creature Commandos’ cast only further strengthens the case that most of the old DCEU will remain intact after The Flash.
