One Guardian of the Galaxy Is Setting Up A Multiverse Disaster
Gamora's return in
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could cause a multiverse disaster for the heroes in the MCU's Phase 5 and beyond. Though Zoe Saldana' character died in Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel brought her back via the Avengers' time travel shenanigans in Avengers: Endgame. The MCU now has a new Gamora, albeit one who never adventured with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Thanks to Gamora turning her back on Thanos during Endgame's epic final battle, she managed to survive Iron Man's snap, setting out across the galaxy while the remaining Guardians sought to track her down. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the team reunited for one final adventure with director James Gunn, but with the shape of the cosmic team set to change drastically, something catastrophic could be on the docket for the Phase 5 film. The existence of the variant Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could pose a major problem for the team, one that has been teased throughout the MCU's Multiverse Saga.
Gamora Must Be Causing An Incursion In GOTG Vol. 3
In the wake of Endgame's time travel escapades, the Multiverse Saga introduced the concept of incursions into the MCU. Incursions occur due to prolonged multiversal travel, causing realities to collide and leading to the destruction of one or more universes. First mentioned in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and developed further during Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, incursions will become more prominent as the Multiverse Saga heads towards Avengers: Secret Wars. But prior to that, incursions can be teased again thanks to Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, especially since she represents a major inconsistency within the MCU's timeline.
Gamora's death in Avengers: Infinity War meant that the MCU's Earth-616 should be without its version of Gamora, so the fact that a variant of the character is currently residing in the MCU's main reality spells danger. Phase 5 will mark the final film for the current slate of Guardians, and the Guardians have often lived in their own pocket of the MCU, so Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 probably won't put too much focus on the concept of incursions, instead giving more attention to the family dynamics between the team. That said, 2014's Gamora's existence during Vol. 3 is an error that could have multiversal repercussions nonetheless.
