Why Lex Luthor Is In Superman & Lois Season 3 Explained By Showrunner

Lex Luthor's presence in Superman & Lois season 3 gets explained by the showrunner. One of the remaining Arrowverse shows is finally getting ready to come back this week. After an extensive hiatus, Superman & Lois season 3 premieres on Tuesday, followed by Gotham Knights. The new season picks up only a few weeks after the events of the Superman & Lois season 2 finale. One of the new threats coming this season Is Lex Luthor, played by Michael Cudlitz. This will be the third version of the DC villain on The CW, following Michael Rosenbaum and Jon Cryer. It's unclear yet when in Superman & Lois season 3 will see Lex's debut.
In a recent interview with KryptonSIte, Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing previewed Lex Luthor's arrival. One of the big questions was why season 3 was the right time for Lex to show up. According to Helbing, it was all about finally getting permission to use Lex Luthor in Superman & Lois. But Helbing also made it clear they wanted to focus on other villains before eventually getting to Lex, sharing the following:
We got permission. We wanted to tackle some different villains and sort of separate ourselves a little bit, but we felt like as soon as we could get Lex, to bring him in, he’s the villain. He is Superman’s guy, and when we finally got permission to use him, we came up with a take, and everybody at DC and Warner Brothers and The CW were stoked with what we are going to try to do. We were super, super fortunate and excited to have Michael Cudlitz [who is playing Lex.].
