Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Is Now Vital In 1 Previously Unthinkable Way

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will prove to be a major test for the MCU in a way that was previously unthinkable. In terms of box-office gross, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been one of the undisputed behemoths of the last decade. This has only extended to some of the lesser-known Marvel Comics stories, with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies only being a testament to this.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were tests for Marvel in that the titular team was widely unknown to the general audience of the MCU. Only diehard comic fans were to know about the Guardians, yet Guardians and Guardians Vol. 2 proved successful enough to even spawn a Disney+ Special Presentation: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on the horizon, though, the third - and seemingly final - installment in the Guardians franchise is yet another test for Marvel at the box office, in one way that would have been impossible at the height of the franchise's power.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’s Box Office Is A Big MCU Test That test is whether Guardians 3 performs at the box office, which also links to the film's quality. In recent years, since the beginning of Phase 4, Marvel has lacked the same utter dominance over the box office that Phases 1 through 3 possessed. While there have been some outliers, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU's box office power has somewhat dwindled, comparatively. This further extends to the superhero genre as a whole, with recent installments such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods all receiving middling reception both critically and commercially.
