The Marvels Has Quietly Resolved Captain Marvel"s Cliffhanger Ending
The Marvels' official synopsis reveals that a big plotline set up by Captain Marvel's ending has already been resolved offscreen. In 2019's Captain Marvel, Brie Larson's Carol Danvers recovered her lost memories and confronted the Kree aliens who kept her real identity a secret from her. Instead of the looming threat of the Skrulls, it's Carol's mentor, Yon-Rogg, who ends up being the main villain of her debut movie.
Phase 5 delivers Captain Marvel's first sequel, The Marvels, set thirty years after the events of the first movie. It's logical for a cosmic superhero as important as Captain Marvel to be busy facing intergalactic threats throughout the decades, which explains why Carol Danvers rarely shows up on Earth to support her fellow Avengers. However, The Marvels' official story synopsis proves that Captain Marvel has done a lot more than she has made it seem.
Captain Marvel Has Already Taken Revenge On The Kree Supreme Intelligence
At the end of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers spares Yon-Rogg's life and ties him to his own spacecraft. She then tells him to deliver a message to the Supreme Intelligence: that she's coming to end it. Captain Marvel returned to Earth more than 20 years later to help the Avengers fight Thanos, but she hasn't revealed what exactly she has done off-world during all these years. Now, one particular sentence stands out in The Marvels' synopsis. It reads (emphasis added):
Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as 'The Marvels.'
Apparently, Captain Marvel fulfilled her promise to Yon-Rogg and the Supreme Intelligence, only offscreen. With her full power unlocked, Carol Danvers must have destroyed the Supreme Intelligence, shaking up the Kree Empire. This must have happened before 2014, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 briefly mentioned that Xandar made a peace treaty with the Kree Emperor, not with the Supreme Intelligence.
