Deadpool & Wolverine couldn"t host every Marvel movie cameo, but at least one reject can be witnessed in all its glory in a 4-year-old perfectly crafted cosplay. The myriad cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine made such a splash that they"re still being talked about two months after its record-breaking release date. Despite being crammed to the brim with easter eggs, Deadpool & Wolverine"s cameos that never came to pass still feel pertinent as fans lament the absence of such prominent X-Men movie legends as Storm and Cyclops. Yet, while he made multiple cameos, Wolverine"s coolest variant was omitted nonetheless.
Thankfully, while Deadpool & Wolverine didn"t feature a Weapon X cameo, @dorksidefitness provided a perfect look at what it might have looked like via Reddit four years ago.
This take on Wolverine"s Weapon X look is ripped straight from Barry Windsor Smith"s Marvel Studios Presents #79 comic book cover, in which Weapon X Wolverine sports a cyberpunk-style helmet complete with pink visor. This striking image was partially adapted into live action in 2016"s X-Men: Apocalypse, though the cooler details (including the visor) were unfortunately removed.
Weapon X Is The Coolest Thing Deadpool & Wolverine Didn't Use Weapon X Wolverine Remains Unexplored Close It is not surprising that Hugh Jackman"s cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse did not include the face-obscuring visor from Barry Windsor Smith"s artwork given that it would have meant losing the impact of Jackman"s appearance. It would have detracted from including the character at all, as Fox could have just as easily used a body double instead. Marvel"s decision to omit it from the various Wolverine cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, meanwhile, might have been less justifiable if not for the fact that this variant would have undermined the appearance of the Cavillrine - simply because it looks so cool.
Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders created art for Weapon X Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, though the concept would remain unused.
Marvel Studios Presents #79 is part of the definitive Wolverine origin story, depicting the Weapon X story arc as Fox"s X-Men movies touched on but never fully adapted. These comics, which ran for 12 issues, depict Wolverine"s torturous transformation into a living adamantium-infused weapon and the immediate aftermath of the process, showing him at his most mindless. It explored the inherently dark themes tied to his traumatic experience, and might have been a particularly important part of Wolverine"s history for Deadpool & Wolverine to explore - though this is admittedly probably best left for the space of an entire movie.

Thanks to not being shown in all its comic-accurate glory in Deadpool & Wolverine, @dorksidefitness" Weapon X cosplay is possibly the most definitive example of what it could look like in live-action. The effort put into faithfully adapting Weapon X"s distinctive cyberpunk helmet and painful metal implants is immensely laudable in its accuracy, especially given the larger than life nature of the original comic design. Ultimately, this four-year-old endeavor is all that"s needed to inspire hope that the MCU might explore this definitive facet of Wolverine"s origins in its future X-Men movies.
