Spider-Man 4 is strictly a Marvel product, but it can make up for one of DC's most controversial decisions that's still hard to accept. Many unknowns exist for the fourth Spider-Man film in the Tom Holland MCU saga. What is known is that the upcoming Spider-Man installment will likely see the famous web-slinger become a more "street-level" hero rather than the multiverse-hopping hero who teams up with the Avengers. Spidey could join forces with other street-level heroes in New York City, like Daredevil, Punisher, and Kate Bishop to fight villains like Kingpin.
Marvel still hasn't confirmed Spider-Man 4's release date, but it is moving forward despite not announcing any new cast members or who will be directing it. Jon Watts did an excellent job with the Homecoming trilogy, but he is moving on to other projects. Plenty of candidates are available, but recent rumors suggest the directing duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah could land the gig. If that happens, Spider-Man 4 could be a chance for redemption for Arbi and Fallah after DC famously scrapped their last superhero project.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah Directed The Scrapped Batgirl Movie For DC

Arbi and Fallah were set to make their DC directorial debuts with Batgirl before DC canceled it. The film starred In The Heights' Leslie Grace as Batgirl/ Barbara Gordon, and included other cast members like J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon and Brendan Fraser as Firefly. It also included a role for Michael Keaton as Batman, who would have made his second return as the Caped Crusader after The Flash. Despite the star-studded cast, Batgirl was made for Max and was never intended for a theatrical release.
Unfortunately, executives at Warner Bros. and DC found the film "not releasable" and elected to shelve it and take a tax write-off rather than releasing it on Max and not making any money back. The decision was shocking, especially for Batgirl's cast and crew, as the film had almost finished production. DC has no plans to release the movie, meaning Arbi and Fallah's work is gone or stuck in some Warner Bros. vault. This decision led to a disturbing trend at Warner Bros, as they have canceled other completed movies, like Coyote Vs. Acme and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt.
Arbi And Fallah Previously Directed Two Episodes Of Ms. Marvel Close Arbi and Fallah are top candidates for Spider-Man 4 as they already have a history with Marvel. The pair executive produced and directed the first two episodes of Ms. Marvel, arguably the best two episodes of the series. They did an excellent job at introducing Kamala Khan by showing the world through her imagination as she sees the world as a comic book, putting her unique touch on the buildings and settings around her. It also showed how much she loved the Avengers, especially Captain Marvel.
Additionally, the directors did a fantastic job balancing the series' superhero elements with Kamala's family and friends. Kamala's family and their dynamic became the highlight of the series, and Arbi and Fallah blended Pakistani culture into the MCU authentically and endearingly. It was the show's beating heart, and was more intriguing than many of the superhero shenanigans that Kamala became involved in. Her family was also included in The Marvels, showing how much audiences loved them in the Disney+ series.
Why Arbi And Fallah Make Perfect Sense For Spider-Man Close Arbi and Fallah have already proven they can work with younger superheroes. Ms. Marvel often felt like it was meant for a younger audience, but they still kept it intriguing for older Marvel viewers through a unique art style and engaging characters. Batgirl is also a younger hero, and while audiences have no idea what that movie looked like, it shows a trend in their career that they like working with smaller heroes in stories with less world-threatening stakes.
Besides their superhero projects, Arbi and Fallah have experience with blockbuster action films as they helmed Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Bad Boys for Life earned a 76% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest of the franchise, and grossed $426.5 million worldwide. Their success with Bad Boys proved they could create exciting action sequences and that they could successfully continue franchises previously helmed by other directors. While Arbi and Fallah aren't officially attached to Spider-Man 4, they would be more than worthy of continuing the franchise.
