Moon Knight Goes Retro With A 1970s Inspired MCU Costume Redesign In Sleek Marvel Art

Moon Knight made his first appearance in Marvel Comics in 1975's Werewolf by Night #32, created by comic author Doug Moench. In his early years, Moon Knight utilized a more simple, retro costume that inspired new fan art shared by arifinity_, which redesigns the MCU's Moon Knight suit in his classic design.
As well as being inspired by Moon Knight's early designs in Marvel Comics, this art also takes inspiration from unrealized plans for a Japanese Moon Knight series in the 1970s, which could have established Marvel's first shared live-action superhero universe.

As it turns out, this was a false claim, though a Japanese Moon Knight series had been planned. This was spurred on by previous interest in the Japanese character of Moonlight Mask, a.k.a. Moonbeam Man, who starred in a series of tokusatsu and anime shows from 1958 onwards, becoming Japan's first on-screen superhero.
The famous deal between Marvel and the Japanese Toei Company that allowed projects featuring a version of Marvel Comics' Spider-Man to be created was also set to feature the introduction of a Japanese version of Moon Knight. Takuya Yamashiro's Spider-Man appeared in a number of live-action movies and TV shows back in the 1970s, and has become a cult legend, and the same was set to occur with Moon Knight. These plans were abandoned in favor of delivering a Moon Knight-focused manga series, but this almost established a shared superhero universe three decades before the MCU.

While the Japanese iteration of Spider-Man has the opportunity to return in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, there has been no word on whether the Japanese Moon Knight will ever see an animated or live-action adaptation.
