One veteran actor of the
Marvel Cinematic Universe has teased more things to come while looking back on his five previous Marvel Studios roles. Throughout the MCU's 16-year history, several actors have portrayed more than one Marvel character, either starting out in smaller roles and getting recast in a bigger or appearing as minor characters that wouldn't garner notice. However, one MCU actor has delivered a number of strong performances since making his debut in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, and could soon be returning.
Ross Marquand debuted in the MCU timeline as the Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War, taking over from Hugo Weaving, who originally played the role in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Since then,
Marquand has loaned his voice to at least four more iconic MCU characters, in addition to Red Skull: Ultron, Professor X, Apocalypse and Doctor Doom. In a recent post on Threads, Ross Marquand looked back on these MCU roles, and noted his excitement to "share what's to come" in the MCU's upcoming future.

What Roles Has Ross Marquand Played In The MCU & Where Could He Appear Next? Close Marquand was able to take over the role of Red Skull from Weaving because the latter opted not to return. As Weaving explained to Time Out in 2020, it was due to the amount of money he was offered to reprise the villain role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame was less than what he earned for The First Avenger. He said Marvel's reasoning was, “It’s just a voice job, it’s not a big deal.”
Marquand, who's famous for his impressions, ultimately landed the role.

In addition to Red Skull, Marquan also took over the role of Ultron in What If...? season 1 in lieu of James Spader's return as the Avengers: Age of Ultron villain. Then, the actor reprised the role of Ultron to voice the successful Ultron drones of Earth-838 during 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Marquand later voiced Doctor Doom in X-Men '97 season 1's three-part finale, but is perhaps better known as
the new voice of Professor X, who was originally voiced by Cedric Smith in X-Men: The Animated Series.
Ross Marquand also briefly voiced Apocalypse in X-Men '97 season 1's finale, and will presumably return as the legendary X-Men villain in the upcoming second season.
Marquand will reprise the role of Professor X, the leader of the X-Men, in Marvel Animation's upcoming X-Men '97 season 2, and presumably in the third season, which is currently in development. It's also possible that Marquand could take on more voice roles in What If...?, as season 3 will release on Disney+ in the future. Since Marquand briefly voiced Doctor Doom in X-Men '97 season 1, he could portray the iconic Marvel villain in live-action, or a variant of him, perhaps setting up the veteran
MCU actor for a much larger role in the franchise's future.
