Anthony Mackie's recent comments at San Diego Comic-Con could hint at the appearance of a major Avenger in Marvel Studios' upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. The cast of Captain America: Brave New World joined Marvel boss Kevin Feige on the Hall H stage at this year's Comic-Con, revealing more about their characters and the storyline of the upcoming Phase 5 movie. Some might have revealed too much, however, as Anthony Mackie may have accidentally confirmed a major MCU cameo.
Following Marvel Studios' epic Hall H presentation, Anthony Mackie sat down with the cast of Captain America: Brave New World and Entertainment Weekly to discuss more details concerning the movie. When asked about Brave New World's connection to The Incredible Hulk, however, Mackie may have divulged too much, as his comments could confirm that Bruce Banner's Hulk will make an appearance in Brave New World. This is yet to be confirmed, but seeing as many Hulk-related characters are returning, this is very possible.

The events of Hulk and his film don't pertain to this movie at all, when, when, and if he shows up... when he shows up, his world, his universe, his story is completely separate from the way we utilize him in our story.

What Role Could The Hulk Have In Captain America: Brave New World? Close The Hulk would be a clear candidate for the new Avengers line-up.
The fact that so many characters first seen in The Incredible Hulk will be returning in Captain America: Brave New World means Bruce Banner's return also makes sense. He could reunite with Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns, and help Sam Wilson to battle Thaddeus Ross' Red Hulk, particularly since there are concerns that Captain America won't be strong enough to do this alone. There is speculation that Sam Wilson will form a new Avengers team in Brave New World, and the Hulk would be a clear candidate for the new Avengers line-up.
Mark Ruffalo's involvement with Captain America: Brave New World hasn't been confirmed by Marvel Studios. However, back in February at a Santa Barbara International Film Festival panel, Mark Ruffalo seemed to confirm that he would be making an appearance as Bruce Banner's Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, though this was apparently debunked in a Variety report. Anthony Mackie's comments could suggest that this debunking was false, however, as the definitive "when he shows up" implies the Hulk will appear.
Anthony Mackie does suggest that the Hulk is only "utilized" in the story of Captain America: Brave New World, which means that Bruce Banner himself may not appear, but he could still be an important part of the narrative. Most notably, this could refer to Samuel Sterns' plan as the villainous Leader, as he may use Bruce Banner's gamma-irradiated blood to transform President Ross into the Red Hulk. Whatever the case, it would be great to see Mark Ruffalo return as the Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, especially if this sees him go toe-to-toe with the Red Hulk.
