The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe rebooted
X-Men movie is closer to becoming a reality as the creative team has landed its first member. The MCU movie timeline is getting ready to finally bring in the X-Men after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which gave Marvel Studios the character rights back. While Deadpool & Wolverine will give audiences a taste of mutants in the MCU, a proper X-Men movie is in the works.
In a new report from Deadline,
Michael Lesslie has landed the gig as the writer for the X-Men movie. At the time of this story's publication, Marvel Studios and Disney have yet to comment on the report. There is currently no director attached to the X-Men reboot; there is also no release date set for the film, and casting has not started yet. A search for a writer for the X-Men reboot began in Fall 2023, when Marvel Studios began meeting with various screenwriters to hear their pitches.

Who Is Michael Lesslie & What His Hiring Means For Marvel's X-Men Movie Close While time will tell where the X-Men movie falls into The Multiverse Saga - if at all - Lesslie's body of work includes The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes. The prequel movie is currently his biggest credit, which opened to middling-to-positive reviews. Lesslie also wrote the screenplays for the 2016 Assassin's Creed live-action movie and 2015's Macbeth. He is currently attached to write the forthcoming Now You See Me 3.
With the hiring of Lesslie to pen the X-Men movie, it appears that Marvel Studios wanted to make sure to land someone who is familiar with tackling ensembles. While Lesslie has worked in Hollywood for several years, he is a lesser-known writer, meaning Marvel Studios weren't too concerned about landing a big name. Whether the studio will add additional writers remains to be seen.
It will certainly be interesting to see who they end up hiring to direct the X-Men reboot, especially after the successful run that Marvel Studios had with X-Men '97 season 1. The bigger question is if it will be a director who has already worked with Marvel Studios or if they are perhaps looking to tap some new blood for the franchise. Hopefully, more updates on the MCU's
X-Men movie reboot will arrive in the coming months.
