MCU"s First Wolverine Solo Movie Imagined In Weapon X Poster

  • The fan-made poster depicts Wolverine's involvement in the Weapon X program, which could be an interesting story to explore in the MCU.
  • Wolverine's backstory was under-explored in Fox's X-Men Universe, so solo projects in the MCU would provide an opportunity to delve deeper into his dark and tragic past.
Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in a fan-made poster for a solo MCU project exploring the X-Men member's origin story. Although Hugh Jackman retired the role of James "Logan" Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine, after 2017's Logan, the actor is returning for one more adventure opposite Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson in Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3. Set to release in July 2024, Deadpool 3 is expected to set up the introduction of the MCU's official X-Men team, including a new version of Wolverine himself, which will potentially lead to solo projects exploring these intricate new characters in the MCU.
While it's likely that Hugh Jackman won't return to portray Wolverine again after Deadpool 3, the Australian actor has been imagined as the clawed mutant once again in a fan-made poster for a solo Wolverine project in the MCU. The poster, shared by Troy Austin, seems to depict Wolverine's skeleton being laced with adamantium as part of the Weapon X program, which would be an excellent story to explore in the MCU.
Wolverine's experiences in the Weapon X program were shown in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the messy timeline of Fox's X-Men Universe means that Marvel Studios may choose to retell this story in a new solo Wolverine movie.

Why The MCU Needs A Solo Wolverine Movie Close Arguably, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was the star of the show in Fox's X-Men Universe, since he had roles in most of the X-Men team-up films, and was the only mutant character to receive his own solo trilogy, comprising X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine and Logan. This perhaps means that previously-neglected mutant heroes could get the spotlight when the X-Men officially debut in the MCU, but Wolverine also deserves solo projects in the future. Despite getting a lot of attention in Fox's X-Men Universe, Wolverine's backstory was barely explored, particularly since Origins butchered his original Marvel Comics history, so Marvel Studios can do his origin story justice.
Wolverine's time fighting alongside Captain America in World War II can be explored, his experiences in the Weapon X program can be told properly, and his work with the Canadian government's Department H can finally be adapted into live-action. Huge portions of Wolverine's dark and tragic backstory were never touched on in Fox's X-Men Universe, so solo projects in the MCU can flesh him out more than ever before. Solo Wolverine projects in the MCU would also give audiences plenty of time to get used to a new actor portraying Wolverine, as Hugh Jackman will presumably not be portraying Marvel Studios' version of the clawed member of the X-Men.
