While this could have easily been just another variant of Spider-Man in the endless Marvel multiverse, X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo confirmed via Twitter/X that it is the same Spider-Man from Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998).
Naturally, this confirmation from DeMayo, as well as the cameo itself, caused a great deal of excitement among Marvel fans. This version of Spider-Man was beloved in the 1990s, as were the X-Men of their own animated series. This love has extended into X-Men '97, with Peter Parker from Spider-Man: The Animated Series crashing the party in a way that has delighted Marvel fans.
Marvel Animation Should Revive Spider-Man: TAS Next Should Marvel Studios bring back Spider-Man: The Animated Series?

As evident, a common denominator of the many reactions to Spider-Man's X-Men '97 appearance is that Marvel Animation should revive Spider-Man: The Animated Series. This way, Marvel Animation's X-Men '97 success could continue with another show, capitalizing on the excitement caused by Spider-Man's cameo.
